The Partners in Education program serves as a catalyst for partnerships between New Haven public schools and businesses in the New Haven community. Every year the Network recognizes effective school-business partnership models.
A school-business partnership is a mutually supportive relationship between a business or non-profit organization and a school that is formed to enhance student's achievement. Formal or informal, the partners commit themselves to specific goals and activities intended to benefit students, schools, and businesses.
Activities may include classroom presentations by business, job shadowing, career exposure programs, business tours, internships and job placement, in-kind and financial support, and employees volunteers.
"Nothing is more important to business than preparing today's youth for tomorrow's employment opportunities. The business community is vested in a strong partnership with education to do what it can to put out the best and brightest young people." -Anthony Rescigno, President Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce
"In my experiences as a Yale-New Haven Hospital employee, I have witnessed firsthand the power of a school-business partnerships not only to the students and schools but to the Hospital as well. At Yale-New Haven Hospital, high school students can transition from volunteer and unpaid internship positions to paid internships and summer jobs. We have placed students on patient floors who have gone on to college, some with the help of one of our minority health scholarships, and come back to work at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Partnerships are truly a win-win for all involved and can be a life-changing experience for students."
-Dee Melio, Chairperson, Partners in Education Committee
